Got limited shoulder movements? Check the rotator cuff!

Do you feel pain when you raise your hand? Do you have a rotator cuff tear?

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that are located in the front and back of the shoulder blade. They are the most important muscle group in the shoulder joint as they help stabilize our shoulder. The muscle located on the front side of the shoulder blade is called the subscapularis, which allows internal rotation of the shoulder joint. The other three muscles are located at the back of the shoulder blade, which includes supraspinatus (for shoulder abduction), infraspinatus and teres minor (for shoulder external rotation and extension).

Sudden or repetitive overhead movements can cause rotator cuff strains or tears, resulting in rotator cuff inflammation and pain. If left untreated, the condition can worsen and limit shoulder movement.

If you would like to learn more about rotator cuff tear and its treatment option, stay tuned on Jenny Hong A1 Chinese Radio at 1pm on Monday (July 5) as Elli, a registered physiotherapist, would be answering all your questions regarding rotator cuff injuries!
